A timber fence is a cost-effective way of adding privacy and security to any property.

With such a wide range of designs available to suit all garden styles and budgets, a fence can complete the look of any garden. However choosing a fence type and style can be a difficult process when faced with so many fence panel options, each offering their own benefits according to its intended purpose.

Here are the 3 different options of wooden fencing:

  1. Solid Fence Panels – Feather Edge; (AKA Closeboard or Feather Board) considered by many as a robust solid fence panel used in gardens throughout the UK. Feather edge fencing comprises of either horizontal or vertical pale panels which are affixed to a fence post dug into the ground, and popularly sat upon concrete gravel boards.
  2. Semi Solid Fencing – Hit & Miss; which has an open design with slats alternating from the front to the back of the panel. These do give a solid panel appearance with the gaps between the slats not being so apparent until you stand closely and look down through them. Similar fence types are Venetian, Metro, picket and Rail fencing.
  3. Decorative fencing – Trellis is the classic choice to add another dimension to the existing fencing, for a garden screen, topper panel to go on top of a solid fence. Trellis fencing is often used to separate the garden and create features walls which allow plantation to grow through whilst letting sunshine through.
